The Iowa Legislature is working on removing the statute of limitations for a civil suit brought forth from victims of sexual abuse who were minors at the time of the crime. State Senator Julian Garrett said the removal of the statute of limitations is for specific crimes, including sexual abuse 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, lascivious acts with a child, and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse. Garrett also said there has to have been a criminal conviction in order to proceed with the suit past the statute of limitations, in order to prevent frivolous lawsuits.
