Work on the FY24 budget in the Iowa Legislature will begin soon, as the legislature awaits the report from the Revenue Estimating Conference. State Senator Julian Garrett tells KNIA News the legislature is still working on the complicated property tax issue, and can’t really move forward with any hard budget numbers until that report comes in.

“We have the Revenue Estimating Conference meeting here shortly. They give us an estimate of what they think the revenue will be in the coming fiscal year, and we use that to fashion our budget. So that will be coming up fairly soon, then we can get going on the budget. Until we know how much money we are going to have, we really can’t do a whole lot.”
