It would be described as a growing year for the Twin Cedars Basketball Squad. The Sabers finished 5-16, and while many of the games were lopsided, the Sabers saw a lot of progress from their young players including the emergence of Freshman Holden Roberts. Throw in first year coach Mateo Varese and the Sabers were learning about themselves most of the way. Varese tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that playing a lot of younger players should benefit the program in the future.
Varese: “We’re playing a lot of young guys. It was a first for all of us. We got a lot of guys excited for next season in our minds.”
Roberts was the leading scorer at just over 13 points per game. Varese says he wants Roberts to be the primary ball handler next season, and that hopefully will get more players involved in the scoring.
