The Melcher-Dallas Girls basketball Squad had a lot of firsts in a long time this season. The Saints had a winning season for the first time in 13 years as they went 13-11 and 6-5 in the Bluegrass Conference. The Saints also went to the Bluegrass Conference Tournament semi-finals, and won a game in the regional. One thing the Saints were known for this season is rebounding. Melcher-Dallas claimed 932 boards, which was 7th in the state in class 1A and 15th in Iowa regardless of class. That said, Coach Kelsey Goff tells KNIA Sports now her team needs to turn some of those rebounds into points, especially on the offensive end.
Goff: “It’s nice to get those rebounds, but we need to capitalize on them. We would get several rebounds in a row but miss the putbacks, and we need to start taking advantage of that next season.”
It was evident as the Saints shot just 24% from the field. Goff says if they can rebound at the same rate but get more shots to go in. they could win a lot more than 13 games next year.
