All three national qualifiers on the Simpson men’s track and field team were in action on day one of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday.
Max Cleveland was the first of the Storm competitors to go off, running in the first heat of the 60 meter hurdles. Cleveland finished in fourth in his heat, with a time of 8.20. Cleveland’s time needed to be one of the next best five after the three heat winners to qualify for the final. However, heat two produced some fast times, unfortunately pushing the junior out of the top eight. Nonetheless, Cleveland finished in 11th place in the country, which was the same spot he was in before the meet.
Carter Berkey went off in flight one in the long jump, but his best mark of 6.68 meters was not enough to move into today’s final. Spencer Moon went off in the men’s 5000 meters to finish the day for the Storm. Moon took 15th overall with a time of 14:48.02. Moon will compete in the men’s 3000 meters today,, scheduled for approximately 4:40 pm.
