The Knoxville Girls Track and Field Squad will have good leadership at the top with several seniors and juniors, who have been with the program their entire high school careers. Coach Michael Splavec tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that group mixed with the newer faces on the team will hopefully make for a competitive group this spring.

Splavec: “We’ve got a really good group of seniors and juniors that know what we expect and know how to lead and they really ended the season last year with some good results.”

Splavec adds seniors Melanie Sullivan and Ashlyn Finarty are seeking trips to the Blue Oval this season. In Sullivan’s case, she missed out by tenths and mere inches in her events, while Finarty had a great season and would not mind duplicating last year with a trip to the Drake Relays and State Meet. Junior Ciara Heffron also is seeking another trip to State in her throwing events. The Panthers were scheduled to go to the Iowa State Indoor Meet in Ames last week, but was snowed out. The Panthers are scheduled to send a few athletes to the Central College Indoor meet on Friday.
