Last season, Knoxville Throwers Ashlyn Finarty and Ciara Heffron had great seasons. Both qualified for the State Meet and Finarty also was able to compete at the Drake Relays. Both are back for another season and have goals set to back to the Blue Oval once and maybe twice. Coach Michael Splavec tells KNIA/KRLS Sports they are very competitive with each other, and Throws Coach Doug Bacon is also getting deserved credit for his coaching and molding Finarty and Heffron into a threat to win any meet.

Splavec: “They really compete with each other really well in practice. One person will throw and the other will one up them. Coach Bacon has done a great job in getting all of our throwers on the boys and girls teams ready for competition like Ashlyn and Ciara.

Finarty finished in 8th place last year at the Drake Relays and 13th at the State Meet, while Heffrron placed 24th at the State Meet. Splavec says both have goals of finishing better this season.
