Habitat for Humanity of Marion County is building six homes in the next two years, and now is the chance to apply to purchase one of them. Applications are open until May 1st, according to new Habitat for Humanity Director Amy Meyer. She says the organization has a vision where every person can have a nice, affordable home to live in.

The local nonprofit has built dozens of homes in Marion County and provided no-interest mortgages, so they are affordable to low- to moderate-income families. A $1.5 million grant from the American Rescue Plan will fund the next six homes.

Individuals and families with a household income of 60% to 80% of the median household income are encouraged to apply. For a family of four, that would be a household income of approximately $45,000 to $61,000 per year.

“We’re hoping to build, not just in Knoxville and Pella, but in smaller Marion County communities, like Bussey, Pleasantville and Melcher-Dallas,” said Amy Meyer, Habitat Executive Director. “We’re working now on finding lots to build on and families to live there.”

Meyer says there is also funding for critical home repair, which can help provide a new roof, furnace or other need to owner-occupied homes in Marion County.
