The Simpson College baseball team swept Wisconsin Superior with a pair of one-run decisions on Friday, using a three-run homer from Will Carlock to win the first game 5-4 and an RBI double from Bennett Wadstrom to take the nightcap 3-2.

The Yellowjackets capitalized on a walk and a hit-by-pitch in the first inning for an early 2-0 advantage. Lucas Juhl sliced the lead in half with a sacrifice fly in the second frame, but Wis.-Superior (4-5) went back out by two with a run in the third and extended its lead to 4-1 in the fifth.

In the top of the sixth, Simpson loaded the bases with one out. Ryan Willis singled down the left field line, Ian Baldwin hit a double to right and Brady Held reached on a fielder’s choice. Matthew Marquez plated Willis with a sacrifice fly before Carlock sent one over the fence in right field to give the Storm their first lead of the game, 5-4.
Max Crooks (1-0) earned the win after entering in relief of Trey Castile, who struck out seven batters in the first five innings.

In game two, it was the Storm who would take a 2-0 lead as Held scored himself and Willis with a two-run bomb to left field in the top of the first. Simpson maintained that advantage all the way until the fifth inning when the Yellowjackets managed to knot things up.

After a quick 1-2-3 inning for both squads, the Storm broke the tie in the seventh with a pair of hits from Aiden Rupprecht and Wadstrom. Rupprecht singled with two outs and pinch runner Tyson McAlexander scored all the way from first on a double to center by Wadstrom.
