Local teams will know a portion of their schedules for the next two years, after the IHSAA has released the football districts for the next two years.
Local class 4A teams include Pella, Indianola, and Norwalk, all of which are in separate districts.
Pella will stay near the Des Moines metro area, and will be joined by Bondurant-Farrar, Carlisle, Des Moines Hoover, Gilbert, and Newton.
Indianola will also not have many long road trips sticking mainly in the Des Moines area, grouped with ADM, Ballard, Boone, Des Moines North, and North Polk.
Norwalk will trips out west, as their district includes CB Thomas Jefferson, Dallas Center-Grimes, Glenwood, Lewis Central, and Winterset.
Knoxville will again have a tough class 3A schedule, including Atlantic, Creston, Harlan, Nevada, and Perry, and will have many of the same teams they have faced over the last several years.
The class 2A PCM Mustangs will have some longer trips on their schedule, with Iowa Falls-Alden, Jesup, Union-LaPorte City, Vinton-Shellsburg, and West Marshall in their district.
Pella Christian and Pleasantville will again be grouped in the same district as they have been since Pleasantville jumped to class 1A in 2016, and will have Cardinal, Colfax-Mingo, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, and Sigourney-Keota.
Martensdale-St. Mary’s has been moved up a class into Class A from 8-Man over the last several years, and will match up with some new teams. Central Decatur, Lynnville-Sully, Madrid, Mount Ayr, North Mahaska, and Wayne will all be in the Blue Devils district.
The local 8-Man teams of Melcher-Dallas and Twin Cedars will again be in the same district as they renew the Marion County rivalry. The Saints and Sabers will have Belle Plaine, BGM Brooklyn, Montezuma, and Moravia. Southeast Warren will have Bedford, East Union, Lamoni, Lenox, Mormon Trail, and Murray.
