This week is Poison Prevention Week, a week set aside in March each year to help raise awareness of poison prevention nationwide, in addition to highlighting the dangers of poisonings for people of all ages and promote community involvement in poisoning prevention.

Warren County Health Services Dsays the Iowa Poison Control Center fields over 50,000 incoming calls per year. The majority of calls are related to human exposures, with 75% of calls coming from the public and 25% from a health care provider.

It is recommended that if anyone is in doubt if someone has ingested or been exposed to harmful chemicals, to not hesitate to call poison control.
