In 2021, the Community Betterment Organization (CBO) acquired the former Pella Early Learning Center facilities following the childcare’s merger with New Horizon Academy. In alignment with the organization’s mission to support the City of Pella, the group has decided to gift these facilities, which are located at 215 Main Street, 712 Huber Street, and 714 Huber Street, to the City of Pella for municipal use.
“This generous gift from the CBO fulfills several of the City of Pella’s long-term facility plan needs,” stated Mayor Don DeWaard. “While the specific uses of the facility are still being discussed, we anticipate the building at 215 Main Street will eventually accommodate City Council meetings, freeing up space in the Public Safety Complex for our Police Department’s needs.” DeWaard adds, “The gifting of this facility for municipal use provides many opportunities that the City of Pella is very grateful for.”
Fred Kreykes, Vice President of the CBO stated, “The CBO is excited to continue our support for the City of Pella with this gift. These buildings have the chance to be repurposed and used by many in the community. These buildings will free up space that is needed for the Police Department and other departments where the City faces space limitations today.”
