Offense was hard to come by for the Central College baseball team Saturday afternoon in a 12-0 seven-inning loss at Coe College heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Dutch (7-7, 1-2 American Rivers Conference) were outhit by the Kohawks 14-3, including four doubles for Coe. Central was sat down in order in six of the seven innings. In the fifth inning, designated hitter Garrett Finley and shortstop Chance Dreyer had back-to-back singles. Third baseman Kasey Carter was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs, but the Dutch were unable to plate any of their only three baserunners on the day. Caleb Evans took the loss as the starting pitcher, allowing six runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out two over two innings. Sam Staley allowed five runs on six hits in three innings. Kurby Vowels yielded one unearned error in his lone inning of work.
Central hosts the University of Dubuque on Tuesday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
