The Pella City Council is holding a public hearing to consider the maximum property tax at their meeting Tuesday. Iowa Code requires cities to hold a public
hearing regarding the maximum property tax dollars on an annual basis — this hearing scheduled earlier this year was postponed by tax legislation in the Iowa Legislature.
The Pella City Council has published a maximum tax collection of $6,509,828 – 2.38% higher than the current fiscal year, with a maximum tax rate of $10.70 — .50 more than the current levy. This is not an increase to the actual levy, as that would be considered at the April 18th meeting.
As discussed in the budget work sessions held last week, city staff proposed to maintain the city’s property tax rate at $10.20 per $1,000 of taxable valuations for FY 23-24. Council will consider this recommendation during the public hearing for approval of the FY 24 budget.
The Pella City Council meeting will be held at 6 p.m. this Tuesday in the Pella Public Safety Complex, and can be heard online.
