The Knoxville City Council met Monday night in regular session.

On the agenda was a proclamation where the mayor read a Sexual Assault Awareness Month proclamation. There was a public hearing regarding the proposal of disposal of interest in real property for sale at 809 North 1st Street.

There have been two parties expressing interest in the sale of property at 809 North 1st Street. The Habitat for Humanity and the owners of land adjacent. Council decided to sell the property to the adjacent property owners, Adam Beal and Ann Rankin for $1,500.

There was an update on progress being made on construction of Gebhardt Park. Asbestos has been removed and demolition of the building is next. The demolition began Tuesday.

Some members of Dixie Cornell Gebhardt’s family expressed that they are in favor of the city moving forward with the project.

Discussion took place on a GIS location study for the public safety/city hall facility. Discussion  centered around the city and school working together on the property at 102 North Lincoln, the former middle school building, which council will pursue for building the new safety/city hall building. The new facility will house city hall, police and fire.
