The Pella City Council held a public hearing to consider the maximum property tax at their meeting Tuesday. Iowa Code requires cities to hold a public hearing regarding the maximum property tax dollars on an annual basis — this hearing scheduled earlier this year was postponed by tax legislation in the Iowa Legislature. The maximum possible rate in 2023-24 is $10.70 per $1,000 of valuation; however, the council will consider the actual levy on April 18th when they consider fiscal year 2024 budget. Additionally, the agenda included accepting the 2021-22 fiscal year audit, awarding of a $95,480 contract for the annual sidewalk repair project to Den Adel Concrete, approving of a special event permit for Vermeer’s 75th Anniversary celebration, and executing of partial assignment of a private development agreement from RDP Holdings to Trigen CFA. Also, the Pella City Council approved an architectural and engineering services agreement with Schemmer Design for renovations to the Pella Community Center, costing approximately $375,000.
