Heffron’s Blue Standard, Boys Place 1st Highlight Knoxville Night At The Oskaloosa Relays
Another new school record and a Drake Relays qualifying mark was set by Knoxville’s Ciara Heffron in the discus at the 95th Oskaloosa Relays on Thursday. Heffron broke her own school record set just over a week ago with a throw of 129-5, blasting her old record by over two feet. Melanie Sullivan brought home a silver and bronze medal as she was 2nd in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:03.84 and 3rd in the long jump with a leap of 16-8. Ashlyn Finarty dominated in the shot put, winning that event with a toss of 38-2.5 inches. As a team the Panthers finished in 6th place with 42 points. The boys were also at Oskaloosa and came home with the team trophy, beating the hosts 130-115. Five 1st place medals were handed out including, T.J. DeJong in the 100 in a time of :11.49. He also took 1st in the 400 in a time of :52.85. Kaiden Smith won the high jump at 6-1 along with the distance medley and the 4×400 meter relay teams mining gold.
Knoxville Boys Golf Places 3rd at Dutch Invitational
In their first true test of the season, the Knoxville Boys Golf Squad finished in 3rd place in the Dutch Invitational at Bos Landen on Thursday. The Panthers scored a 329, which was just eight shots off of winner Gilbert’s 321 and four back from runner-up Pella Christian’s 325. Evan Smith was overall medallist with a 73. Other Knoxville scores were Beau Leisure with an 82, Kail Arkema and Carson Uitermarkt both with an 87, Noah Keefer fired a 92 and Urban Ziller scored a 103.
Knoxville Boys And Girls Soccer Get Wins On Thursday
The Knoxville Boys and Girls Soccer Squads had victories in separate venues. The girls broke out in a 12-2 romp over Creston. Hanna Linsley and Janae Baker both had four goals while Ava VanDonsellar nailed two goals and Olivia Raemaker and Payton Horn each scored one. That was the Panthers first win of the season and the first win for new coach Bethany Johnson. The Panthers boys breezed to a 3-0 win over Albia. Luka DeJong scored a goal just before halftime, and Jensen Finnegan slammed the door shut with two goals in the 2nd half. Knoxville is now 3-0 on the season.
Panther Tennis Squads Both Beat Centerville
Knoxville Boys and Girls Tennis Squads defeated Centerville on Thursday. The girls won 8-1 with Janie Maasdam, Kate Schneider, Iselynn Prevo, Maddy Wells, and Mackenzie Karr winning singles matches. The Panthers swept the doubles 3-0. The boys also got their first win for Coach Kevin Wadle in a 6-3 decision over the Big Reds. Konner Leslie, Jack Felton, Eli Bumgardner, and Jacob Williamson notched singles wins. Knoxville won two of the three doubles matches.
