The Norwalk tennis and track teams, as well as girls golf, all competed on Thursday.
The Warrior girls tennis team opened their season with a 10-1 dual win at Dallas Center-Grimes. Singles players Kelsey Dammeier, Anya Kallenbach, Madison Haskell, Ava Johnson, Katie Larson and Sami Aagard all won convincingly in straight sets. Four of Norwalk’s five doubles teams also won in straight sets: Dammeier and Kallenbach, Haskell and Johnson, Larson and Aagard, and Grace Dehmer and Tessa Livingston.
The Norwalk boys tennis squad hosted DC-G and rolled to an 11-0 victory, improving to 1-1 on the season.
In girls golf action, Norwalk placed fourth out of seven teams at the Newton Cardinal Invite held at Westwood Golf Course. The Warriors shot a team score of 212, finishing 22 strokes behind first-place Pella. Ruby Hoch and Addie Smith both shot a 51 to pace Norwalk, Lydia Krueger shot a 52 and Ava Garvey added a 58.
The Warrior boys track team placed fourth with 105 points at the Indianola Invitational. Waukee Northwest won the team title with a score of 173. Norwalk claimed its only gold medal in the final event as the 4×400 relay quartet of Skyler Olson, Dillon Ranck, Braeden Carlson and Ben Hanson posted a winning time of 3:27.4. The Warriors placed second in six events: Landon Hochstein in the long jump, Quillan McMurry in the discus, Maddux Borcherding-Johnson in the shot put, Carlson in the 400 hurdles, and the 4×800 and shuttle hurdle relays.
The Norwalk girls track team placed sixth at the Hawkette Invitational in Ankeny. The Warriors’ highest finisher was a second-place effort by the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:09.68. Nyah Hulbert placed third in the 200-meter dash and the 4×200 relay also placed third. Kate Desmond was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles.
