The Pella Christian girls soccer team has begun the 2023 spring sports season with one of their best starts in recent memory.

For the first time since head coach Mike Buchheit took over the girls soccer program in 2015, the Eagles have managed to avoid a loss in their first four matches. Pella Christian dominated in their first two matches, outscoring Ottumwa (6-1) and Knoxville (5-1) 11-2. A weather shortened game versus Newton resulted in a 1-1 draw, but the Eagles responded with a 1-0 win Thursday against Centerville to improve to 3-0-1. Senior Joslyn Terpstra, who’s scored 8 of the team’s 13 goals, says experience has helped the early season success and believes more good things are still to come for Pella Christian.

“We had quite a few girls returning this year and coming back and so we’re able to use that and put it together. I think our possession is getting a lot better and yeah, it’s just great to have that strong of a start to the season because we haven’t had that in the past.”

The Eagle girls face their toughest test of the young season on Monday, hosting Class 1A’s #1 ranked Des Moines Christian at 5:30 p.m.
