The Class 1A #13 ranked Pella Christian boys soccer team knocked off rival #16 ranked Des Moines Christian 5-3 Monday night, while the Eagles girls soccer squad fell 8-0 against the Class 1A #1 ranked Lions.

The Pella Christian boys came out firing on all cylinders against DMC, as Theo Hugen scored 33 seconds into the game on a shot that snuck underneath the goalie.  The Lions rallied to reclaim a 2-1 lead after scoring on a corner kick and a breakaway.  With 53 seconds left in the first half,  David OIivier knotted the score at 2-2 off a failed clearance on corner kick from 20 yards out.  In the second half, DMC struck first, but Theo Hugen re-tied the game with his second goal off a feed from Ethan Van Arendonk.  Jack Fancher pushed the Eagles back in front 4-3 on a penalty kick, before Ethan Van Arendonk finished off the win with an insurance goal.  Goalkeeper Kaleb Pogany had 10 saves in the win, as Pella Christian improved to 2-1.

Competing against the top team in Class 1A, the Pella Christian girls struggled to keep pace with their rivals.  Des Moines Christian grabbed control of the game early, building up a 2-0 lead going into halftime. The Eagles couldn’t muster up a comeback in the second half, as they fell to 3-1-1 on the season.
