Pella Tennis Teams Sweep Triangular Meets with Boone, Dallas Center-Grimes
A pair of long road trips west didn’t slow down the Pella boys and girls tennis teams against Boone and Dallas Center-Grimes.
The #1 in 1A Dutch boys swept the Mustangs in their first-ever matchup (tennis is new at DCG in 2023) and fought the #6 in 1A Torredors in a 9-2 tilt played in Grimes. Pella’s boys were without normal No. 2 player Joshua Roozeboom against Boone due to injury, but he returned for the doubles round. The Dutch won three-tiebreakers at No. 2 singles (Cameron Rowe), No. 2 Doubles (Rowe/Cashen Thompson), and No. 4 Doubles (Hayden Rozenboom/Noah Zobel) against the 6th ranked team according to Iowa’s High School Tennis Coaches. Pella’s boys are back in action at Marshalltown today at 4 p.m.

Pella’s girls had a clean sweep over both opponents in Boone, defeating the Mustangs 11-0 and Torreadors 9-0. Head Coach Josh McCollam says a pair of highlights from the evening included the work of Claire Smock, who went through both duals in both singles and doubles (Doubles partner: Emily Blom) without dropping a single game. Bryn Higginbotham and Mallory Westerkamp won their two doubles matches on the night with clean sheets as well. Pella is off until a makeup with Knoxville Friday at 4:15 p.m. at the Joel Tonda Tennis Complex.
