Indianola City Clerk Jackie Raffety recently received certification from the Iowa Municipal Finance Officers Association, after completing a three-year series of courses. Raffety tells KNIA News the courses include best practices for writing minutes and ordinances for council meetings, open meetings laws, legal terms, and finance classes. Raffety said one of the best parts of her job is helping the various city departments serve Indianola residents.
“So my favorite part of this job is just getting to work with every single department. I get to have a really small role in helping them achieve their goals. Most of the stuff that they want to do and provide the community goes through council, and so we have to put things on the agenda and ask council to approve it and set policies for it. It’s very rewarding to see things get accomplished for the citizens of this community.”
Raffety joined the city from IMU, and spent a year learning under longtime City Clerk Diana Bowlin before moving into her current role.
