Five Knoxville Squads have events going on today led by a long time track and field meet.
Panther Relays Set To Bring In Several Teams From Across The State
The Panther Relays are at Randy Wilson Track today as Knoxville will welcome Pella, Pella Christian, PCM and Indianola among area teams. As the Drake Relays gets closer, this meet is often used as a chance to clinch a spot to get into the running for a qualifying time and distance. Panthers Boys Coach Eric Kellar tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he looks at the fact that the competition is outstanding, giving his team a challenge at nearly every event.
Kellar “Some great competition. Mt. Ayr has a stud that won state in at least one event. PC has some good stuff so it’ll be an event that will challenge us and let us see where we’re at.”
On the girls side, Coach Michael Splavec says his girls can go through a more normal routine for once and not have to get on a bus.
Splavec: “Really excited to get the kids in a lot of events. Their parents and families sometimes can’t get to the meets that are farther away, so they are just excited to see what they can do and look to see if they can get some good times, distances and heights.”
Field events get underway at 4:15 with running events at 4:30.
Knoxville Tennis Squad Take On Clarke Today
Both of the Knoxville Tennis Squads are playing today as the girls will travel to Clark while the boys are at the Joel Tonda Tennis Courts in Knoxville. Both teams are coming off losses to non-conference opponents on Monday as the boys were swept by Indianola and the girls lost 8-1 to Grinnell. Boys Coach Kevin Wadle is seeing progress from his players while Girls Coach Nick DeMoss tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that while his team lacks in experience, his less experienced girls are athletic and they are handling their new sport well.
Knoxville Girls Golf Heads To Albia Today
The Panther Girls Golf Squad finishes off a busy week with a trip to Moravia to play in a triangular with the Lady Dees and Moravia. The Panthers finished 5th at Centerville on Tuesday as Faith Roozeboom continues to lead the Panthers as she was runner-up with an 86 on Tuesday. Action is scheduled to get underway at 4:15.
