Knoxville Boys Win Panther Relays, Heffron Shatters Discus Record Again
Marion County dominated the 56th Running of the Panther Relays at Randy Wilson Track in Knoxville on Thursday as the Knoxville boys took 1st place and the Pella girls also took the top team prize at the event. For the girls, it was another record setting night for Ciara Heffron, who shattered her own school record for a third time by slinging the discus 139-3, which was a personal record for Heffron by ten feet. Heffron told KNIA/KRLS she knew she could have a good season, but never dreamed it would be this good.
Heffron: “I was really looking forward to this meet, because I’m comfortable with our ring. I was hoping I would be good, but not this good this early.”
Other top finishers for the girls were Melanie Sullivan in the 400 in 1:04.10.
The Panther boys cleaned up, winning the event by 47 points. Top finishers were T.J. DeJong in the 100, 400 and long jump, Koby Higginbotham in the 110 hurdles, also 4×800 and shuttle hurdle relays.
Knoxville Tennis Squads Fall To Clarke
Knoxville Tennis Squads fell to Clarke in separate venues on Thursday. The girls were swept by the Indians 9-0 while the boys fell 6-3. Eli Bumgarnder, and Jacob Williamson at five and six singles respectively won. Bumgardner and Williamson also teamed up to win at #3 doubles. The girls will welcome Pella to the Joel Tonda Tennis Courts today, while the boys will host the Knoxville Invitational, weather pending on Saturday.
Knoxville Girls Golf 2nd At Moravia
The Knoxville Girls Golf Squad finished second at Moravia on Thursday. The Panthers scored a 233 with Faith Roozeboom earning medallist for the second time this week. Other scores were Caelie Smith with a 58, Hayden Hudson scored a 61, and Iselynn Prevo scored a 70. The Panthers head to the Pella Country Club to take on Pella and Pleasantville on Monday.
