Norwalk was victorious in girls tennis, boys tennis and girls soccer on Thursday, while the girls track team tied for sixth place at the Waukee Northwest Relays.

The girls tennis team improved to 3-0 in somewhat unusual fashion, losing four out of six singles matches before sweeping all five doubles matches to claim the 7-4 dual win at Ballard. Ava Johnson won 10-3 at No. 4 singles and Katie Larson picked up a 10-7 win at No. 5 singles for Norwalk. The Warrior doubles wins included close decisions of 11-9 by Madison Haskell and Johnson and 10-8 by Grace Dehmer and Tessa Livingston. The team’s next meet is Monday at Waukee Northwest.

The Norwalk boys tennis team improved to 3-1 with an 8-3 home win over Ballard and will return to action Tuesday at Pella Christian.

In girls soccer, the Class 2A 12th-ranked Warriors outlasted Southeast Polk 3-1 in Norwalk, notching their third straight win to improve to 3-2. Junior Addison Burch and freshmen Avery Drymon and Addy Wood scored goals while Burch, Braelyn Clark and Alayna O’Connor had the assists. The visiting Rams attempted more shots on goal than Norwalk but dropped to 5-2 as Warrior freshman keeper Katie Liedtke grabbed nine saves. Next up for Norwalk is Tuesday’s home match vs. Grinnell.

The Warrior girls track team scored 44 points to tie for sixth out of eight schools at Waukee Northwest. The host Wolves won the meet with 182.5. Norwalk’s top finish was a second-place time of 1:08.13 in the shuttle hurdle relay. Bailey Birmingham placed third in the 400-meter hurdles. Fourth-place finishes were recorded by Kate Desmond in the 100 hurdles, Savannah Welch in the 200 dash, Ava Carlson in the 800 and the sprint medley relay. The Warrior girls will compete in Saturday’s Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake Stadium.
