A dominant effort by the bottom half of the Central College men’s tennis team’s lineup overwhelmed the University of Dubuque in a 7-2 win Friday night.
The Dutch (8-9, 3-1 American Rivers Conference) took down the Spartans for the 13th consecutive meeting. In the Nos. 4-6 singles matches, Central only lost three sets. Caleb Hamerlinck was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 4. Ayden Fletcher was spotless in a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5. Matthew Den Adel won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6. The Dutch also got singles wins from Nick Scott 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 and AJ Wilkins 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 In doubles, Trey Melvin and Den Adel won 8-4 at No. 2, while Alejo Marcon and Wilkins won 8-3 at No. 3.
The Dutch, who clinched their spot in the American Rivers Conference Tournament with the win, are back action at 10 a.m. today in Dubuque with a match against Loras College.
