Two events were scheduled for Knoxville Sports Squads on Saturday, but only one ended up being played as the boys tennis invitational was canceled due to early morning rain, wet courts at the Joel Tonda Tennis Complex and the forecast of more rain later in the day. The event that did get underway was Boys Soccer at Randy Wilson Track and the Panthers fell to class 4A #16 Southeast Polk 3-0. Coach Dylan Mick told KNIA/KRLS Sports his team played well but never could get a rhythm and a 10:00 stretch cost his team the match. Knoxville will be back on the pitch Monday on the road at PCM. Other Monday sports happenings are girls golf at a quad in Pella. The Panthers will be joined by the host Dutch along with Pleasantville and PCM. Coach Barry Smith tells KNIA/KRLS Sports each individual player has different areas to work on, but collectively he is confident they can get their team scores down to the 220 or even lower by the end of the season.
Smith: “If we can continue to refine those things and minimize those shots where we are losing. I think we can get down to a score of 220 and even to around 200s by the end of the season.”
Other action Monday for Knoxville are girls tennis at Pella Christian, and Girls Soccer will be hosting Central Iowa United starting at 5:30. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for updates on all Knoxville High School Sports action.
