
The newest member of Pella Community Ambulance arrived late last week. Nitro, a dog donated to the local emergency medical services provider by Crisis Canines of the Midlands, met with members of the Pella Police Department — including K-9 unit Ellie, on Friday. Pella Ambulance Chief Greg Higginbotham says crisis response canines are specifically selected and trained to interact with individuals who are experiencing extreme emotions after a crisis or disaster.
