The Indianola City Council met in regular session Monday. The council discussed the acquisition of property located at 118 E Salem and 110 N Howard including the parking lot on the east side of the square block for the purpose of building a future Public Safety Building and/or City Hall/Public Library or other building projects including a green space, parking, or atrium among others. Another proposal included the possibility of a new building in the current location that would add a second floor for city administration, and the ground floor being for the emergency departments. The council approved funds to move forward with the initial stages of the project including architectural services, and a purchase agreement for the city to buy the property.
The council also approved the FY24 budget for the City of Indianola, with a property tax levy rate of $13.55 per $1,000 of valuation. The council approved the plans for the North Jefferson Way Trail Connections Project, amended a city ordinance regarding sewer service charges, tabled an ordinance prohibiting scavenging practices, voted no on an ordinance regarding “sounds not allowed” from commercial vehicles parked on city streets and private property, and approved a partial proposal of ordinances regarding the implementation of uncontrolled intersections and other traffic codes, and approved the Laura’s Timer Ride Subdivision.
