Pella Christian Girls Tennis Sweeps Knoxville, Boys Tennis Nearly Sweeps Davis County
The Class 1A #8 ranked Pella Christian girls tennis team cruised past Knoxville in a 11-0 sweep Monday, while down in Bloomfield, the boys tennis squad just missed a sweep with an 8-1 win over Davis County.
The Eagle girls were in command from start to finish against the Panthers, losing just 11 total games among 22 sets of action. Winning the six singles matches for Pella Christian was Katy Roose (6-2, 6-2), Claire Vander Molen (6-2, 6-0), Sydney Van Arendonk (6-0, 6-0), Rachel Lanferman (6-0, 6-1), Reagan DeVries (6-0, 6-1), and Emily Van Soelen (6-0, 6-0). The five doubles victories came from the duos of Roose/Van Arendonk (6-0, 6-1), Vander Molen/Lanferman (6-1, 6-0), DeVries/Van Soelen (6-0, 6-1), Leah Mulder/Elaina Vos (6-0, 6-0), and Ava Breems/Renae Van Wyk (6-0, 6-0).
Playing just nine matches at Davis County, the Pella Christian boys swept doubles play and won five of the six singles matchups. Claiming the three doubles matches were the duos of Shuan Bos/Toby Vander Molen (8-4), Isaac Natelborg/Rob Schreur (8-1), and Aaron Meinders/Rhett Terpstra (8-1). Claiming wins in #1-4 and #6 singles were Bos (8-6), Natelborg (8-2), Vander Molen (8-5), Meinders (8-3), and Schreur (8-4).
The Eagle girls improved to 5-0 with the win Monday and the boys now sit at 6-1 on the spring. Both teams return to the court today versus Norwalk at 4:15 p.m. The Pella Christian boys host the Warriors, while the girls match is on the road.
Pella Christian Soccer Teams Fall Monday Night
The Pella Christian boys soccer team came out on the wrong side of a 4-2 decision at home against Central Iowa United, while the girls soccer team struggled in an 8-1 loss on the road at Dallas Center-Grimes Monday night.
Camden Parker and Ethan Van Arendonk each scored goals to give the Eagle boys a 2-1 advantage at halftime of their contest. Despite having the early momentum, the second half got away from Pella Christian. Central Iowa United managed to find the back of the net three time after the intermission to drop Pella Christian to 2-3 on the season.
At Dallas Center-Grimes, the Eagle girls found themselves trailing 4-0 at halftime as the Mustangs posted 21 shots on goal. In the second half the Eagles limited DCG to just 11 shots on goal, but four of those shots resulted in goals. Pella Christian posted just three shots on goal in the game, all coming in the final 15 minutes of action. One of the three shots connected with the back of the net, as Lexi Terpstra got the Eagles on the scoreboard, before they fell to 3-3-1. The freshman has now scored in two of the team’s three conference games this season.
The Pella Christian boys soccer team will try to bounce back tonight as they host Dallas Center-Grimes in a 5:30 p.m. match. The Eagle girls are off until Thursday, when they travel to Chariton.
