Multiple Indianola spring sports teams competed Thursday, including boys and girls tennis, boys and girls track, and girls golf.
The Indianola girls track and field team hosted the annual Ron Werling Relays at the Indianola Stadium, placing 2nd with 142 points. Leading the Indians included Abbie Kluver winning the Discus, Josie McGraw winning the 100m Hurdles, Kiley Kindelspire winning the 200m, Jordyn Brown and Gracie Foster were 1st and 2nd in the 1500m, the Shuttle Hurdle Relay placing 1st, Bree Tenges 2nd in the 3000m, Kaydence Eaton 2nd in the 100m, Distance Medley placed 2nd, and the 4x400m Relay and 4x800m Relay were both 2nd place finishers.The Indians will next hit the track Monday at Saydel.
The Indians boys track and field team placed 8th at Waukee, scoring 37 points. Bennett Brueck again won the High Jump for Indianola, clearing 6-03. Logan Piper placed 2nd in the 110m Hurdles, Eli Fox was 4th in the 100m Dash, Byron Taylor 7th in the Long Jump, and the 4x400m Relay Team placed 2nd, and Shuttle Hurdle Relay Team was 8th. Indianola next competes Tuesday at Carlisle.
The Indians boys tennis team defeated Little Hawkeye Conference foe Pella Christian 9-2. Indianola nearly swept the singles, getting wins from Joe Comer, Erik Jensen, Kael Christiansen, Nate Winjum, and Justus Woell, while the doubles pairings of Comer/Michael Rothchild, Jensen/Christiansen, Winjum/Woell, and Eli Chadwick/Tate Dales all wound up winning close matches.
The Indians girls fell in a heartbreaker to the Eagles 6-5. Brynn Bishop and Emily Allen were the long singles winners for the squad, while the doubles pairings of Carmen Christensen/Keely Greubel, Audra Dowler/Ceris Askelson, and Maren Haynes/Faith Mahlstadt would all win, and Indianola dropping four third set tiebreakers, any one of which would have given them the win. Both tennis teams wait until Tuesday to compete, the girls against Grinnell and the boys against Carlisle.
And the Indians girls golf team battled a tough meet in addition to the weather at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny Thursday, placing 9th shooting a 420. Indianola was led by Camryn Overton shooting a 100, Reese Lucas just a shot behind at 101, Amelia Moorlach carded a 106, and Abbie Corbett shot a 113. Head coach Rita Doane said the cold weather did not do the team any favors, and it just wasn’t their day. They tee off again Monday at Veenker Golf Course in Ames.
