Pella Girls Soccer Knocks Off Ranked Comets; Boys Fall to Ottumwa
The #7 in 2A Pella girls soccer team controlled #4 North Polk 2-0 Thursday, while the boys were frustrated in a 2-1 loss to Ottumwa at the Pella Soccer Complex. At their home stadium, the Dutch girls played their most complete game of the season to date to knock off the Comets, fueled by a pair of Abby Warner goals and 15 saves from Haley Van Houweling. Lauren Mace and Claire Smock earned assists on the pair of scores. Pella, who is now 5-2 overall, also held their annual teacher appreciation night to highlight educators important to members of the team. The Dutch girls next host Norwalk on Monday in a makeup.
For the second consecutive game, the Dutch boys fell despite having possession for the vast majority of the game. A pair of defensive miscommunications allowed the visiting Bulldogs to score, while Logan Solomon was finally able to break through in the 78th minute despite several excellent scoring chances for the team. Pella’s boys fall to 3-4 overall and return to the pitch on Tuesday to start a lengthy homestand against Newton.
