The Norwalk girls and boys soccer teams are both 3-0 in Little Hawkeye Conference play following wins over Newton on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon.
The Warrior girls took to the road for their sixth straight win, scoring two goals in each half to beat the Cardinals 4-0. Freshman goalie Katie Liedtke saved all three Newton shots on goal, notching her third consecutive shutout and fourth of the season.
Norwalk goals were scored by Ellie Dueland, Braelyn Clark, Avery Drymon and Reese Trebilcock on a PK. Assists went to Pearl Brown, Addison Burch and Clark, who led the team with four shots on goal. The Warriors are now 6-2 overall while Newton dropped to 5-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.
The Warrior boys nearly won by shutout as well before allowing a late goal in a 4-1 home win over the Cardinals. They led 1-0 at halftime and scored three times in the final 40 minutes.
Sophomore Tavin Ferner recorded his first career three-goal hat trick, Jack Brown added one score and Jace Davis had the team’s lone assist. Goalie Jacob Rueber had two saves in 75 scoreless minutes in the net.
Norwalk improved 4-4 overall and snapped Newton’s five-game winning streak. The Cardinals are now 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the Little Hawkeye.
Both Warrior squads return to action Monday. The girls will play a make-up game at Pella starting at 5:30 p.m., and the boys are at West Des Moines Valley for a 7:15 varsity contest.
