The bobcat that affected rural residents in Martensdale and the western portion of Warren County has died after attacking livestock and pets, being shot by a rural resident. Iowa DNR Fur Biologist Vince Evelsizer tells KNIA News a bobcat being bold enough to come near humans and their property is very rare, and there is a chance the bobcat was in captivity at some point, and there isn’t cause for concern that this will be a recurring issue. Evelsizer said if you encounter a bobcat in the wild, enjoy the sighting as they are mostly active at night, however if you have an odd encounter where one is not afraid to make noise and wave your arms while walking away from it. Evelsizer also said to contact the Iowa DNR if there is a bobcat affecting humans and property in the future.
