The Norwalk girls track and field squad won six events and placed second in the team standings at Monday night’s Winterset Invitational, highlighting a busy slate for Warrior athletics.

Girls Track scores 133

Waukee won the Winterset girls meet with 174 points, followed by Norwalk with 133. Individual champions for the Warriors were Nyah Hulbert in the 200-meter dash and Kate Desmond in the 100-meter hurdles with a new ‘PR’ of 16.04. Norwalk also won the sprint medley, shuttle hurdle, 4×100 and 4×400 relays. The team’s next meet is Thursday at Carlisle.

Girls Soccer falls in PK’s

The Norwalk girls soccer team saw its six-game winning streak snapped at Pella, falling 1-0 in a match decided by PK shootout. Following a scoreless regulation and overtime periods, both sides converted 4-of-5 penalty kicks in the initial shootout, forcing sudden death. Both teams made their sixth attempt, then Pella converted again and got the save to earn the victory. The Warriors dropped to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. They will host Oskaloosa today at 6:15 p.m.

Girls Golf loses home meet

The Norwalk girls golf team lost a home dual to Newton at Willow Creek, scoring a 210 to the Cardinals’ 201. Ruby Hoch shot a 49 to earn runner-up medalist honors for the Warriors, who are now 3-1 in Little Hawkeye Conference duals. They will travel to Oskaloosa today for a triangular against Osky and Indianola.

Girls Tennis suspended by rain

Rain suspended the Norwalk girls tennis squad’s home dual against Urbandale with the Warriors leading 5-1 after singles play. Kelsey Dammeier, Anya Kallenbach, Madison Haskell, Ava Johnson and Katie Larson all earned victories. No decision was made on whether the dual will be completed at a later date. The 6–0 Warriors host Oskaloosa today at 4:15.

Boys Soccer blanked at Valley

Two Norwalk boys teams were also in action Monday. The Class 3A 7th-ranked Warrior soccer team lost 3-0 at 4A 5th-ranked West Des Moines Valley, managing just five shots on goal. Jacob Rueber captured nine saves for Norwalk while allowing three goals. Now 4-5 overall, the Warriors will host Oskaloosa tonight at 7:45.

Boys Tennis loses to Urbandale

The Norwalk boys tennis team, which had won five straight dual meets, lost 7-4 at Urbandale and now stands 5-2 overall. The Warriors will look to bounce back today at Oskaloosa.
