The Simpson baseball team was swept by Coe College over the weekend, falling in 10 innings in game one 4-3, then 7-5 and 4-0 in the three game series. The Storm had a no-hitting going in game one from Trey Castile through five innings before Coe took advantage of several hits, a walk, a wild pitch, and an error to take a 3-2 lead. The Storm tied the score in the 8th to force extra innings, before Coe scored in the 10th to win it.
Game two saw the Kohawks take a 3-0 lead before the Storm scored a run to lead 3-1 going into the 7th, and both teams then scored two in each of the 7th and 8th innings and the Storm weren’t able to complete the comeback. Simpson only had three hits in the series finale as the Kohawks played from ahead from the start.
The losses put the Storm’s chances of qualifying for the ARC tournament in jeopardy, as they are essentially four games back with six to play, with three of those games coming this weekend against first-place Buena Vista.
