Knoxville Boys And Girls Soccer Notch Wins On Tuesday
Both Knoxville Soccer Squads were able to get wins in the South Central Conference on Tuesday night as the girls took down Centerville 1-0 while the class 2A #12 boys came from behind to beat Albia 2-1. In the girls match, the Panthers got a first half goal from Hanna Linsley and made it stand up the rest of the way. Goalie Ella Breazeale made six saves to run her total to 111 on the season. Meanwhile in Albia, the boys fell behind 1-0 in the first half, but Jensen Finnegan got the equalizer and Luka DeJong had the game winner. Goalie Carson Cecil made eight saves. Coach Dylan Mick tells KNIA/KRLS Sports Finnegan has been a steady reliable player all season.
Mick: “Jenson is our left mid and he gets in the right places and plays exactly how we want him to play.”
The boys record advances to 7-3 while the girls are 6-4 and have won five matches in a row. The boys head to Grinnell on Friday while the girls turn right around and play at Centerville next Tuesday.
Knoxville Girls Track 10th At Chariton Invitational
The Knoxville Girls Track and Field Squad was in Corydon at the Chariton Invitational on Tuesday. Chariton’s track was unavailable due to construction for the meet hosted at Wayne. The Panthers, according to Bound Stats finished 10th and had one 1st place winner, that was Ciara Heffron on the discus. Other top finishers were Ashlyn Finarty in the shot put was 2nd as was the 4×200 meter relay team. 3rd place finishes went to Melanie Sullivan in the 100 and Natalie Collins in the 1500. The team will be off for the remainder of the week, but Heffron, Sullivan and Finarty will compete this week in the Drake Relays. Heffron will throw the discus Thursday at 2:30, Sullivan will run Thursday at 5:00, and Finarty will be in the shot put at 9:00 Friday morning.
Knoxville Boys Track 5th at EBF Relays
The Knoxville Boys Track and Field Squad went to Eddyville for the EBF Relays and placed 5th. 1st place medals went to T.J. DeJong in the 100 and long jump, he was also on the winning 4×400 meter relay team. Other top finishers were Cael Irving winning the 800, Austin Washington placing 2nd in the 200, Koby Higginbotham placing 2nd in the 110 hurdles, he was also 3rd in the high jump behind teammate Kaiden Smith, who placed 2nd in that event. The Panthers head to the PCM meet on Thursday.
