Four Indianola spring sports teams are in action today, with boys and girls tennis and boys and girls soccer all competing.
The Indians boys soccer team celebrates senior night with a home match against Little Hawkeye Conference rival Dallas Center-Grimes. The squad is currently 3-0 in the conference, and face off against a Mustangs team that has been dominating in the conference so far also sporting a 3-0 record. Action starts tonight at 7pm. The girls soccer squad is in action at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, for a road game against the Railsplitters of Des Moines Lincoln. Kick-off is at 4:45pm.
The Indians tennis teams are trying to get back on the right track after both teams fell in conference play to Grinnell on Tuesday, with both teams facing the newly formed Dallas Center-Grimes tennis teams. Senior Kael Christensen said a good amount of the team is playing varsity for their first season, so there is a lot of learning on the fly, but they are taking advantage of every moment they can.
“The top varsity are some returners, but a lot of the lower guys are new. A lot of the JV guys are new, we have 10 more people this year even though we lost 10 last year. A lot of guys recruited their friends and you see that, I think the team just really wants to have fun and play. Even after practice you catch the guys hanging around and playing together.”
The Indians girls make the road trip, while the boys host. First serve is at 4:15pm.
