A fantastic forecast has residents feeling spring with highs in the 60s and 70s and little-to-no rain in sight, even with a cooler weekend ahead. Warmer temperatures means the spring planting season is underway, and many farmers are preparing fields for the upcoming crop. Tracy Gathman with Two Rivers Cooperative says as more people get out and about to enjoy the great weather, he reminds everyone driving to be prepared for slow moving, large farm implements on many area roadways.

“Be careful out there — farm equipment is going to get on the road here shortly,” he says. “When we are out here on the roadways we don’t realize how quickly we are coming up on the back of the slow moving vehicle. So if you do see flashing lights or a slow-moving vehicle sign, please slow down early.”

Typically, corn in Iowa is planted between mid-April to early-May, depending on conditions.
