opening-night-2

It looks like the weather will allow racing tonight at Knoxville for the first time in 2023. The first two weeks were called off due to bad weather and tonight is the 3rd try at the Pella Motors/Kraig Ford 70th Season Opener. The 410 class seems to always have some of the top names in sprint car racing and this year will be no different with defending champion Brian Brown, Aaron Reutzel, Austin McCarl and others. One team that finished in the top ten in points last season was the Matt Moro Motorsports entry of Davey Heskin. Moro and Heskin merged their teams last year and Moro tells KNIA/KRLS Sports while the two are on opposite ends of the driving style spectrum, they both meshed well and look forward to another year at Knoxville.

Moro: “Davey just doesn’t tear up stuff and he races smart and keeps the car in good positions, and that’s not what I was raised on. I’ve learned from him on several things, and I hope he’s learned from me and it’s been a good relationship.”

The 360s could be an exciting race with Terry McCarl and Clint Garner going head-to-head again, but Chase Randall, Jamie Ball will also be vying for the title, plus the addition of eight rookies including Jack Anderson, son of former driver Johnny Anderson, is set to make his Knoxville debut. The Pro Sprints will have defending champion Mike Mayberry back plus two rookies, A.J. Johnson from Oskaloosa and Tony Mosher from Osceola. Listen to the action on the DeYarman Automotive Radio Racing Network on KNIA with Live Track Side at 5:00 and Race Nights Live at 6:30, which is a half and hour earlier than normal due to the raceway moving hot laps to 6:15.
