First place in the Little Hawkeye Conference will be on the line Monday night when the Norwalk boys soccer team hosts Dallas Center-Grimes at 7:30 p.m.

The Class 3A 7th-ranked Warriors are 6-5 overall and 4-0 in conference play, having won four of their last five games. The 3A 3rd-ranked Mustangs are 7-3 overall and also 4-0 in the LHC. The two teams have split their last four meetings, including Norwalk’s 1-0 win last season following a PK shootout.

Monday’s winner at Warrior Stadium moves into sole possession of first place in the Little Hawkeye. Norwalk coach Dustin Kralik calls the match a great opportunity for his team as they continue to seek the program’s 15th conference title since 2003.

“It’s always a fun game with them… a big rivalry for us,” Kralik said. “Two of the teams that have been pretty successful in the conference and it’s always going to be a tight game and a battle going out there, so we’re really looking forward to testing ourselves and getting out there with something on the line.”

As the schedule rolls into May, Kralik says that the Warriors must continue to work on finishing more offensive opportunities that present themselves while fixing some shape issues defensively that have created scoring chances for their opponents.

The Norwalk girls soccer team will also be in action Monday night, playing a non-conference game at Winterset starting at 5:30. The Class 2A 13th-ranked Warriors are 7-4 overall.
