School Record Falls for Eagles Boys Golfers En Route to Team Title at Knoxville
The Class 2A #7 ranked Pella Christian boys golf team shattered the school’s team score record by shooting a 293 to win the Knoxville Invite at Pine Knolls Golf Club on Saturday.
The Eagles, who had all six golfers finish inside the top 15 among individuals, bested the previous school record of 302 which was set back in 2001. Leading the charge in setting the new mark for Pella Christian was Eliot Menninga, who was the meet’s runner-up with a 69. Isaiah Breems finished one-stroke back of Menninga with a 70, which earned him a tie for third place. Cooper Spronk posted a 76 which earned him eighth place in the meet, while Landon Fransman came in 12th place after recording a 78. Deacon Branderhorst and Dane Geetings rounded out an excellent day for Pella Christian, shooting a 79 and 80 respectively to finish in 14th and 15th.
The Eagles boys golfers have a quick turnaround, as they travel to Riverside’s Blue Top Ridge Golf Course Monday for the third and final Little Hawkeye Conference regular season meet at 9 a.m.

Pella Christian Girls Soccer Goes 2-0 at the Nike Triangular
16 combined goals propelled the Pella Christian girls soccer team to a pair of wins at the Nike Triangular in Burlington on Saturday.
The Eagles opened the triangular with an 8-5 win over the hosts Burlington Notre Dame, before ending their day with an 8-0 victory against Columbus. Joslyn Terpstra was dominant in the two games, recording a combined eight goals (four in each game) and five assists (three in game one, two in game two). Younger sister Lexi Terpstra wasn’t far behind Joslyn in the action, scoring five combined goals between the two games. (two against Notre Dame, three against Columbus). Esther Ford recorded a goal in each contest, and Jenna Edel found the back of the net against the Nikes.
The Eagles girls soccer team will try to carry this momentum into Monday night’s 5:30 p.m. home game against cross-town rival Pella.

Eagles Finish 3rd at the Pella Girls Tennis Invitational
Competing in the Pella Invitational held on Eagle Lane, the Pella Christian girls tennis team claimed third place in the rain shortened event.
Earning a bye in the first round of singles play, Katy Roose won her quarterfinal match 8-0 before falling 8-0 in the semifinal contest. Roose was tied 5-5 with Pella’s Emily Blom in the third-place match before rain suspended it. Sydney Van Arendonk won her first-round match 8-0 in the singles tournament but fell 8-3 in the quarterfinals. Van Arendonk proceeded to go 2-0 in the consolation bracket to make it to the fifth-place match, but the weather came before the match began.
Laurey Johnson and Regan DeVries won their first match 8-3 in the doubles tournament but fell in the quarterfinals 8-1. After falling in their first match 9-7, Claire Vander Molen and Rachel Lanferman bounced back with a 8-0 win in their first consolation match. Johnson and DeVries won their first consolation match 8-3 and set up a matchup for the fifth-place game with Vander Molen and Lanferman, which the latter two won 8-4. Neither team was able to finish out the bracket however due to rain.
Up next for the Pella Christian girls tennis team is a 4:15 p.m. home match Tuesday against Pella, which is a make-up contest after rain postponed the two previous matches.
