The Indianola girls golf team hosted a meet at their home course, while the Indians soccer teams were in action in Little Hawkeye Conference play on Monday.
The girls golf team would defeat Pella by four strokes 193-197 at the Indianola Country Club, with Amelia Moorlach earning meet medalist honors via tiebreaker shooting a 44. Camryn Overton placed 3rd with a 46, Abbie Corbett shot a 51, and Reese Lucas a 52 to round out the top scorers for the Indians. Moorlach said this year is such a young group, that success may not always be determined by their final placing right now, however that doesn’t mean they are any less hungry to win.
“I think since we are a young team, even if we don’t make that state goal this year I think it really is in our future. It would be exciting if it happens this year, but I think we can win conference this year which would be exciting, then regionals will be exciting too.
The Indians next golf Thursday in Ottumwa.
The Indians girls soccer team held on for a win against Newton 1-0 Monday, hosting the Cardinals at Indianola Stadium. Remy Sivertsen found the back of the net with an assist by Camden Palmer for the lone goal of the evening, as the Indians defense stood firm. The Indians boys had a dreadful start on the road, falling behind 3-0 at halftime. However they stuck with it and completed the comeback attempt to score three goals in the second half to tie the score with Jacob Chickering, Aiden Keller, and Sam Alexander finding the back of the net, only to see the hosts score a late heartbreaking goal to pick up the win. The girls are now 5-5 on the season, the boys are 4-9. The boys will host Dowling Catholic tonight, the girls host Des Moines Christian on Thursday.
