twin-cedars-melcher-dallas-showdown-rivalry

It is championship night for the Bluegrass Conference as the boys and girls track meet will be held in Lamoni tonight. For Twin Cedars, the girls should get almost 40 points from one person as Rylee Dunkin is projected to win all four of her events. The rest of the points for the Sabers will be from the other eight girls who need to have good nights for the Sabers to contend. Coach Cam Parker tells KNIA/KRLS Sports maximizing points and point manipulation will be key.

Parker: “You find a way to maximize potential and finding a way to manipulate the line ups to get the maximum number of points, and you get a 4×400 and put your throwers in it because there’s only two teams so that’s six points.”

The boys will try to get as many good finishes as possible. The Sabers have been very good in the 4×100 meter relay and come in as the 2nd seed in the conference. For Melcher-Dallas boys and girls have an outside shot at a title, if things go their way. With deeper than normal teams for both squads, both coaches will put their best line up forward. Girls Coach Amy Stuart tells KNIA Sports everyone has to have a great night to be in the mix.

Stuart: “I think we have the potential and everything will have to go right, I’ll line it up to where I think we can have a chance and hope everyone has a great night to give us a chance.”

The Saints have five events that they are the 2nd seed in and several more that Melcher-Dallas is 3rd in. Coach John Suntken says they pulled off a 3rd place with nine on the team and he hopes for the same outcome or a spot or two higher.

Suntken: “I think we’ll be able to score some points. That’s what we’re shooting for. We got 3rd last year with 9 guys so hopefully we can get that or 2nd this year.”

Logan Godfrey is projected to finish well in his events as does Owen Suntken as he is the top seed in the 110 hurdles by over a second and a half.
