The Norwalk girls soccer team picked up a 3-1 non-conference win at Winterset Monday night while the Warrior boys were defeated at home against Dallas Center-Grimes by the same score.

The girls game was tightly contested in terms of shots on goal, but the Class 2A 13th-ranked Warriors led 2-0 at halftime and matched the Huskies’ second-half goal to improve to 8-4 on the season. Karina Garcia, Braelyn Clark and Kenzie Hodge all scored for Norwalk and Addy Wood had two assists. Freshman keeper Katie Liedtke saved eight of Winterset’s nine shots on goal.

In the boys matchup of Class 3A top 10-ranked teams, DC-G led 1-0 at the half and prevailed 3-1 in a battle for sole possession of first place in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The third-ranked Mustangs improved to 8-3 overall and 5-0 in conference play while the seventh-ranked Warriors fell to 6-6 and 4-1, respectively. Senior Jack Brown scored Norwalk’s only goal of the night – assisted by Teegan Kralik – as the Warriors tallied only four shots on goal. Jacob Rueber finished with three saves.

Tonight, the Norwalk girls will host top-ranked Dallas Center-Grimes at 7:15 p.m. A Warrior victory would force a first-place tie in the Little Hawkeye standings. The Norwalk boys’ next game is Friday night when they host 3A eighth-ranked Urbandale.
