The Simpson Storm softball team continued their run of non-conference success Tuesday, sweeping Monmouth in a doubleheader that was rescheduled from April. The Storm were down 3-1 in game one going into the final inning, only scoring on a Maddie Luderman home run, but would come through with three runs in the bottom of the inning to walk it off with a Jenna Norris pinch-hit bases loaded walk, a Caelynn Obleton bases loaded walk, and a walkoff hit from Ashlyn Steen to win it 4-3.
Game two was all Storm after falling behind through the top half of the fifth 5-1, only scoring on a Megan Heidelbauer solo shot, but exploded for 15 combined runs over the next two innings to end the game early with a 16-6 victory. The Storm hit three home runs over that span, including a three-run shot from Steen, another solo round-tripper from Luderman, and another from Cam Martin.
Simpson is now 22-14 overall and hosts Wartburg today for a crucial American Rivers Conference doubleheader.
