For the third time in a row, the Knoxville Raceway was forced to cancel the start of the 70th Annual Season Opener on Saturday. General Manager Jason Reed tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that the first two weeks were canceled due to cold temperatures, rain and snow. Last Saturday a light shower came through in the afternoon but Reed thought that they would still get to race.
Reed “We actually got John’s truck and went out to the pits and ifg the pits are bad we can just cancel. We drove around the track and it started to rain harder.”
Reed went on to say that the track does have a set daytime temperature that they go by and it is even lower than before.
Reed: “John always tells me that Cappy said no one wants to sit and watch a baseball game at 63* and we even lowered that to 55* and we haven’t even hit that yet.”
The Knoxville Raceway will try its fourth attempt at this year’s season opener with hot laps scheduled to start at 6:45 on Saturday. If you are unable to make it to the track, tune in and listen for Live Trackside at 5:00 and Race Nights Live at 7:00 on the DeYarman Automotive Radio Racing Network on KNIA.
