The Iowa House and Senate both passed a bill that will benefit the Knoxville Raceway. The Raceway Facility Tax Rebate Fund was passed May 4. With the bill passing legislation it will assist the Knoxville Raceway in getting money back for improvements at the facility.

The bill was originally passed in 2015 for a period of 10 years to 2025. For several reasons, one being COVID and the other being language on how it would be paid, between the years of 2016 through 2018 Knoxville Raceway never received any of the rebate money, which was about $750,000, according to Knoxville Raceway General Manager, Jason Reed.

The Raceway Facility Tax Rebate Fund Bill passed Thursday will extend the period of time for a portion of the sales tax receipts collected through 2030 up to a maximum of $1.8 million.

Reed, tells KNIA/KRLS News, “As we do this new elevator project, we’ll turn that in. That project alone is over $1.8 million. All the other projects that we have done up to this point, which has been great, so the money we have got back in this rebate we’ve been able to put back into facilities. We’ve got about all the restrooms updated now and with ADA accessibility. We’ve been able to do that even with all the barns that we use for the county fair and other events too.”

In an attempt to make the facility more user friendly, more handicapped parking and more concrete parking has been added around the ticket office.
