The Indianola boys and girls golf teams took home Little Hawkeye Conference championships Monday, with the girls winning with a team score of 372 at Beaver Creek Golf Club in Grimes, and the boys winning out of season with a 294 at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa. The Indians boys tennis team also competed in postseason play, with a doubles pairing making it all the way to the section semifinals.
The girls golfers stayed undefeated in Little Hawkeye Conference action, with Camryn Overton running away with meet medalist honors shooting an 86, a full seven strokes ahead of second place. Amelia Moorlach and Reese Lucas both shot a 94 to finish in fifth and sixth respectively, while Abbie Corbett finished in 9th with a 98 to give the Indians four top-10 finishes. Head coach Rita Doane said winning conference was always the goal, and the Indians went through the regular season not falling to any of the conference opponents so they felt confident going in that winning the meet was a strong possibility. They will next golf in their final meet before regionals Monday at Ballard.
The Indians boys normally compete in the fall in class 4A competition, but broke out the clubs to win the conference championship that included meet medalist honors for Preston Bily as he carded a 70. Jackson Overton shot a 72 to place third and Jackson Buchanan shot a 73 to place fourth, and Willi Nelson shot a 79 to round out the scoring.
