The 2023 legislative session wrapped up last week. State Senator Ken Rozenboom described the past four months as ‘another remarkable year.” for those ” that believe in limited, pro-growth government.” He says the 2024 budget allocates $8.517 billion for the next budget year, or 88.25% of ongoing revenue.

In the final week of the session, Rozenboom says House File 718 passed to provide relief from property taxes. HF 718 implements reform by automatically reducing tax rates when assessments rise, and consolidates and simplifies more than a dozen different levies — legislation that passed nearly unanimously .

“[House File 718] protects Iowans from those massive jumps in property taxes they feared, especially when they received their new assessments this year. The new legislation empowers taxpayers by giving them additional transparency on the taxes and spending of local governments. The projected property tax savings are expected to be $100 million annually.”
